Let me reaffirm my political standing before writing further. I'm a card carrying, center-right republican who thinks that foreign policies of Obama and his secretary-of-state (both current and former) are detrimental to US. I do stand with Israel when it comes to middle-east conflict. With that said I support the President, Secretary-of-State and 5 other nations that came up with Iran deal.
Few arguments against the Iran deal are:
Let me address issues one-by-one using common-sense approach. Iran, like any other sovereign republic has right to develop its nuclear program including weapons. If US, Russia, France, UK, China, India, and Pakistan can have nuclear weapons so can Iran.
Talk about a comprehensive framework for N-bomb free world then we are talking. Tell me that all nuclear powers (Whether NPT designated or NOT) works toward a timeline to destroy all their n-bombs, dismantle enrichment / military nuclear facilities and open up the remaining civil facilities for UN inspections then we are talking. Unless all de-facto nuclear powers come together with a comprehensive deal to destroy and dismantle their facilities it's unfair to restrict Iran or any other nation. Comprehensive deal should come through UN and shall be made strictly enforceable (New world UN for god's sake, not the current toothless one. Change the composition that reflects reality).
Still if we want Iran to give up on their nuclear ambitions without all that, obviously we have to throw some carrots at them to motivate them to stop. That carrot is Iran deal.
The White Elephant
Next two bullet points on Israel's security and Iran being axis of evil goes hand-in-hand. In fact they go-together with another big white elephant in the room which US, the west and UN doesn't like to talk about -> Saudi Arabia. Any discussion on this topic without discussing the big white elephant is an incomplete discussion. Before reading what I have to say read through this article from NYTimes.
For a moment think about the deadly Islamic terrorist organizations of our times ISIS, AlQaeda, Boko Haram & Taliban. These are the organizations that wreck world peace today. All these have one thing in common. They are driven by the same ideology to establish Sunni Wahhabi supremacy in the world. Deadly terrorist organizations are products of Sunni Wahhabism. No marks for figuring out the country that is behind it. Saudi Arabia with its out-dated ideology together along with its foot soldiers aka savages from fellow sunny countries / organizations like Lashkar-e-Taayiba from Pakistan are bigger threats to civilized world. These are the white elephants that civilized nations in the world are reluctant to have discussions about. Time to reflect who is the real evil here.
Yes agreed that Obama's deal is not perfect and doesn't address Saudi either. But at-least it will insure that Iran will keep the Wahhabists on check. The deal definitely has loopholes, but still I consider it one-step forward for humanity. When I said humanity it not only encompasses US, India, Israel, and Western Europe. It also includes Africa suffering from Boko-Haram and other Muslim sects that are victims of Wahabbism (like Shia, Sufi and Ahamedia sects). As people may know Iran deal is also opposed by Saudi Arabia. Common sense tells me that if savages at Saudi opposes it then there must be something really good in that deal for others.
Of all people in the world, Americans should better know that there is no free lunch. At some point there should be a compromise. And Iran deal is that compromise to keep the wahhabists in check. Saudi is a bigger threat for humanity than Iran. It's time we all start talking about this white elephant. Iran deal is the exchange gift / price that we have to pay for failing to curb the white elephant for so long.
Few arguments against the Iran deal are:
- Loopholes will enable Iran to develop Nuclear weapon
- Israel's security
- Perception of Iran as terrorist state /axis-of-evil
